Date:2022-06-04     Source:Elkem

On May 25, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt, during their visit to Vianode, Elkem’s producer of sustainable battery materials, expressed their appreciation for Elkem’s contribution to new energy batteries and to the global effort in building a green and low-carbon environment.

Founded in 2020, Vianode is located in Kristiansand, Norway. As a subsidiary of Elkem that develops and produces sustainable, high-quality battery materials, Vianode has made it its corporate goal to improve battery performance to meet the rapidly growing demands of the electric vehicle market. Building on Elkem’s extensive experience in solutions for advanced materials and in-house R&D resources, Vianode has developed a range of synthetic graphite products for batteries with unique performance and lower CO2 emissions than currenttypical materials.

Vianode plans to build its first-phase plant in the Herøya Industrial Park, Norway. When put into production as planned, it will supply graphite materials for more than one million electric vehicle batteries per year, contributing to the European battery value chain.

The market for battery materials is growing at an exponential rate, and developing a sustainable value chain is critical to the green transformation of companies. As a leading global center for the automobile sector, Germany is one of the key markets for Vianode products. This visit by the foreign ministers of Germany and Norway will facilitate the joint efforts by Elkem and its peers in the automobile industry to further promote the sustainable development of the battery materials market.
